Square dancing is certainly alive and thriving! Some people think of square dancing as a hillbilly craze of the fifties, but nothing could be further from the truth. Gone are the calico petticoats, checked shirts and overalls. The ladies now wear comfortable circular skirts with tulle petticoats and the men wear smart western shirts.
Square dancing has changed with the times and is now a modern social activity set to great music (not only country & western, but also a contemporary modern sound). You will hear great songs from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's - stage musicals, Beatles, Sinatra, Elvis are all part of the musical repertoire of square dancing. It is also good physical and mental exercise and is endorsed by the National Heart Foundation.
