DULCIMERS IN AUSTRALIA

The dulcimer has become a popular instrument in Australia over the last two decades. It is possible to find dulcimers from all over the world in Australia, including the German Hackbrett, the Greek Sandouri, Eastern European Cymbalom, Persian Santour, and Indian Santur. Many instruments which are played in Australia are an American design which has been adapted for Australian conditions.The main builder of these instruments is the Canberra maker Gillian Alcock. UNITED STATES

The dulcimer is a traditional instrument of the United States. It is used for many styles of music including Contra-Dance and Irish music. An excellent maker from West Virginnia, U.S.A. is Nicholas Blanton. Jackie Luke plays a Blanton Compact (pictured)
