Report on the First
National Hoedown ![]()
17 - 19 July 1998
At the Annual Tamworth Country Music Festival, as well as the music, there is always a variety of country related dance forms being performed. The problem is that spectators do not normally get the opportunity to try out the different types of dancing. The dancing is primarily for entertainment.
The National Hoedown is a new function where experienced and novice dancers can participate in a variety of forms of dancing without any ongoing obligation. The first national Hoedown was a great success, for the dancers and the sponsors - Coca Cola and Prime TV.
The good news therefore, is that it is continuing!
(The second National Hoedown was run in 1999)
There were six types of dancing that made up the first National Hoedown in 1998:
Square Dancing
Line dancing
Two Stepping
Bush Dancing
Round Dancing, and of course
Clogging
For those interested in what happened in 1998, a summary follows:
Friday 17th July Dance
Welcome Social and Registration for all dance forms at the West Tamworth Leagues Club
Saturday 18th July Dance (day and evening)
Bush Dancing was at the Longyard Hotel, Line dancing and Two Stepping were at the West Tamworth Leagues Club, and Square Dancing, Round Dancing and Clogging were at the Services Sports Club.
At the Services Sports Club Clogging was on for one hour in every three, so there was time to check out the other dance forms. There were opportunities to watch clogging or to participate both for experienced dancers, and for novices. There was also small group teaching of clogging upstairs while the Square Dancing and Round Dancing had the floor. Some of this was Advanced. Some Intermediate, and some for Beginners.
For those that wanted to try all types of dance, there was a free shuttle bus between the venues, but it was not far.
Event Director was: Barry Cowling 02 6766 3327 Full weekend ticket to all venues and all events was $25, day tickets, and children's tickets were available.
