Malacological Society of Australasia

The Malacological Society of Australasia (MSA) is the professional society for the study of molluscs in the Australasian region.

The Society has an international membership and is affiliated with other malacological groups including the American Malacological Union and the international organisation, Unitas Malacologica.

 PUBLICATIONS The journal of the Society, Molluscan Research (formally Journal of the Malacological Society of Australia) has been publishing research papers since 1957. The Society's newsletter, published since 1953, appears quarterly. The Society also publishes special publications from time to time. Back issues of both the journal and newsletter are available for purchase. 

MEETINGS AND CONFERENCES The Society conducts a scientific conference every three years. The 2006 conference, held in Wollongong, NSW, included symposia on Human Interactions with Molluscs, Molluscan Ecology, Fisheries and Aquaculture and Evolution and Systematics 

WORKSHOPS The Society conducts workshops from time to time. In December 2006, workshops were conducted on Cephalopod Taxonomy and on Eastern Australian Land Snails.

MOLLUSC RESEARCH GRANTS The Society makes small Research Grants to graduate students and others conducting malacological research. Preference is given to those not employed as professional malacologists.

CONSERVATION & ENDANGERED SPECIES The Society is networked with the leading conservation organizations, and is working with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Mollusc Specialist Group to list Australia's threatened and endangered species of molluscs.
